Fueling Safety: Magnetic Breakaway Device for High Flow Dispensers

PACIFIC, MO – A new version of Husky Corporation’s patent-pending magnetic fueling breakaway device is now available from the industry leader in fuel nozzles, safe-t-breaks and accessories. MagBreak® CK 1” for high flow rate applications will separate at less than 225 pounds pull force following an accidental fuel hose separation. MagBreak® CK and the MagBreak® ¾” model restore fuel dispensing operations quickly by making it very easy to reconnect fuel hoses.

Fuel hoses are designed to break in two sections when adequate pull force is applied, while dual check valves keep fuel from leaking and creating a hazard. Separation happens when customers accidentally drive off with the hose still in the vehicle after refueling. It can also occur during so-called “nuisance breaks” when high line shock causes abrupt pressure changes in fuel hoses. In either case, if there’s no damage to the dispenser, the fuel marketer wants to reattach the breakaway device and get back in operation as quickly as possible.

MagBreak® makes reconnections easier and faster than ever before. Husky Corporation engineers designed a patent-pending magnetic mechanism that essentially pulls the breakaway halves back together without effort. A twist-to-lock feature indicates when the assembly is locked and reconnected.

The patent-pending magnetic design is the key allowing easy reconnection and makes the UL listed MagBreak® virtually maintenance-free. If there is ever a need to inspect MagBreak® the only tools needed are two straight blade screwdrivers.

“That is the biggest feature of MagBreak®. We have received very positive feedback from attendants who have reconnected MagBreak®. It takes reconnecting separated fuel hoses to a new level,” said Rob Brown, Husky Corporation Engineering Manager.

Husky’s MagBreak® is made with high-impact resistant polymer housing and weighs less than competing magnetic breakaway devices. The smaller design reduces the possibility of dispenser damage and additional costly downtime. High pull force ratings mitigate the risk of line shock.

MagBreak® Model Maximum Rated Pull Force weight
MagBreak® CK 1” F NPT Separates at less than 225 pounds pull force 1.09 Pounds
MagBreak® CK ¾” F NPT Separates at less than 225 pounds pull force 1.21 Pounds
MagBreak® ¾” F NPT Separates at less than 200 pounds pull force 1.21 Pounds

“MagBreak® also has a low back pressure level which allows for freer-flowing product through the nozzle. And higher flow rates mean higher profits for our customers,” said Brian Wolff, Husky Corporation Project/Design Engineer.

MagBreak® is available in ¾” or 1” Female NPT inlets or in ¾” or 1” female BSPP threads. As with all Husky products, MagBreak® is backed by a 12 month warranty against manufacturing defects. Please contact Husky Corporation toll-free at 800-325-3558 or at www.husky.com for more information.
